The Best Things to Do in Raleigh This May

If your May calendar isn’t filling up yet, don’t worry… we’ve got you! Between rooftop parties, markets, and festivals, there’s plenty happening around Raleigh this month. And we’ve done all the research so you don’t have to! Here’s what to add to your calendar:

May 3rd - May 14th

  1. Cinco de Mayo on the Rooftop

    When: Sunday, May 3rd - Wednesday, May 6th

    Where: The Willard - Rooftop Lounge

    Cost: varies - reservations required

    Description: If you’re looking for a festive way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, this rooftop is it. Expect margaritas, skyline views, and a lively atmosphere all weekend long. It’s the perfect excuse to grab your friends, dress a little fun, and kick off May in style.

  2. Juniper Level Botanic Garden Spring Open House

    When: Friday, May 8th - Sunday, May 10th

    Where: Juniper Level Botanic Garden

    Cost: FREE

    Description: This hidden gem only opens to the public a few weekends each year and it’s so worth it! Wander through stunning gardens, discover unique plants, and maybe even bring a few home. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and feels like a mini escape from the city.

  3. Ma & Pa Festival

    When: Saturday, May 9th from 11am - 6pm

    Where: Fayetteville Street, Downtown Raleigh

    Cost: FREE

    Description: A fun, laid-back festival right in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Expect local vendors, live music, food trucks, and a great mix of things to browse, eat, and enjoy. It’s an easy way to spend a spring day—whether you stay for a bit or make an afternoon of it.

  4. Mother’s Day at Fenton

    When: Sunday, May 10th from 11am - 4pm

    Where: Fenton - Cary

    Cost: FREE

    Description: Celebrate Mother’s Day with a stroll around Fenton. There will be fresh flowers, permanent jewelry, sweet treats, live music, and even personalized poems!! Whether you’re planning something for mom or just tagging along, it’s an easy, feel-good way to spend the day.

May 15th - 22nd

  1. Juniper Level Botanic Garden Spring Open House (Last Weekend!)

    When: Friday, May 15th - Sunday, May 17th

    Where: Juniper Level Botanic Garden

    Cost: FREE

    Description: Missed it earlier this month? You’ve got another chance. Spring blooms should be at their peak, so this is a great weekend to go.

  2. Got To Be NC Festival

    When: Friday, May 15th - Sunday, May 17th

    Where: NC State Fairgrounds

    Cost: FREE

    Description: This festival is all about celebrating all things North Carolina. There will be local food, agriculture, rides, and plenty of things to explore. Come hungry and plan to stay awhile!

  3. Artsplosure

    When: Saturday, May 16th - Sunday, May 17th

    Where: Downtown Raleigh

    Cost: FREE

    Description: One of Raleigh’s most popular art festivals! Stroll through downtown, browse work from artists across the country, and enjoy live performances. It’s vibrant, creative, and perfect for a weekend wander.

  4. Triangle Pop-Up – Maker’s Market

    When: Saturday, May 16th from 11am - 4pm

    Where: Fenton - Cary

    Cost: FREE

    Description: Support local makers and shop unique, handmade goods you won’t find anywhere else. It’s ideal if you love discovering small businesses and one-of-a-kind pieces!

  5. North Hills Wine Walk

    When: Saturday, May 16th from 3pm - 6pm

    Where: North Hills

    Cost: FREE

    Description: Grab your friends and sip your way through North Hills! You’ll sample wines from different shops while strolling the area… basically the perfect afternoon.

  6. Pickin’ In The Park

    When: Saturday, May 16th from 4pm - 7pm

    Where: Knightdale Station Park

    Cost: FREE

    Description: This is gonna be one of those feel-good summer evenings. Live bluegrass, open green space, and a chill crowd. Bring a blanket!

  7. Animazement

    When: Friday, May 22nd - Sunday, May 24th

    Where: Raleigh Convention Center

    Cost: $83.11+ per ticket

    Description: A must for anime fans and pop culture lovers! It will be filled with cosplay, panels, artists, and a super energetic atmosphere all weekend long.

Week of May 23rd - May 31st

  1. NC Sugar Rush

    When: Sunday, May 24th from 12pm - 6pm

    Where: City Plaza Downtown Raleigh

    Cost: FREE

    Description: If you’re a dessert lover, this one’s for you! There will be so many sweets, treats, and more sugar than you probably need (but will absolutely enjoy).

  2. UNC Health Championship

    When: Thursday, May 28th - Sunday, May 31st

    Where: Raleigh Country Club

    Cost: Ticket prices vary starting at $20

    Description: Four days of high-level golf at one of Raleigh’s most historic courses? Not a bad way to spend a spring afternoon. The UNC Health Championship brings rising PGA Tour talent to town, so you can catch some seriously impressive play in a laid-back, spectator-friendly setting. Even if you’re not a huge golf fan, it’s a great excuse to be outside and switch things up for the day.

  3. Around The World, Raleigh

    When: Saturday, May 30th

    Where: Moore Square

    Cost: FREE

    Description: Travel the world without leaving downtown. This event celebrates different cultures through food, performances, and experiences. Super fun and family-friendly!

  4. Raleigh Greek Festival

    When: Saturday, May 30th - Monday, June 1st

    Where: NC State Fairgrounds

    Cost: $5 Admission Fee (Kids 13 and under get in free!)

    Description: A Raleigh favorite! Come for the authentic Greek food, stay for the music, dancing, and cultural experience. It’s lively, delicious, and always a good time.
