We recently spent a day exploring Knightdale, from strolling through downtown to grabbing coffee and pastries at a local favorite, and touring Mailman Post, a new rental-home community that makes it easy to see why more people are calling this area home.

Where to Live in Knightdale: Meet Mailman Post

One of our favorite things about Knightdale is that you don't have to plan an elaborate itinerary to have a fun day here.Start by wandering through downtown Knightdale and exploring the local businesses along First Avenue. It's the kind of area where you can grab a coffee, meet a friend for brunch and then spend some time exploring the surrounding parks and local businesses.
Grab Coffee at Unhinged Coffee & Co. ☕
A must-stop for coffee lovers is Unhinged Coffee & Co., right in the heart of downtown Knightdale. We stopped in during our day around town and tried both coffee and their muffins - and everything was delicious. Unhinged describes itself as a community-focused "third place," and the space has grown from a mobile coffee cart into a brick-and-mortar shop serving specialty coffee and house-made syrups. The shop has also expanded its offerings into the evening with craft beer, wine and THC beverages.
It's an easy spot to add to a Knightdale morning: grab a latte, grab a pastry and take your time exploring downtown.

Brunch at The Depot on First 🥂
If brunch is more your speed, add The Depot on First to your list. Located in a historic home near Knightdale Station Park, it's a local favorite for Southern-inspired food and a fun place to gather with friends.
Sunday brunch is especially popular, making this a great option for a slow weekend morning before heading out to explore more of Knightdale.

Make Time for Local Eats 🍽️
Knightdale has continued to grow its local food scene, so there's much more than coffee and brunch. Prime Barbecue is one spot to know if you're craving barbecue, while the area also has breweries, cafés, restaurants and casual neighborhood spots that make it easy to stay local for the day.
And that's one of the things we love about exploring communities like Knightdale - you don't necessarily need to drive into Raleigh every time you want somewhere fun to eat or grab a drink.

Spend the Afternoon at Knightdale Station Park
If you want to get outside, Knightdale Station Park is one of the best places to start. The 71-acre park was once a farm and nursery, and its design incorporates both the area's agricultural roots and its railroad history. Today, the park includes paved trails and greenways, open lawns, an amphitheater, athletic fields, a central pond, a dog park, an inclusive playground, a splash pad, picnic areas, public art and more. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend a few hours - whether you're walking the trails, bringing the kids to the playground, taking your dog out or packing a picnic.
And if you're someone who likes having outdoor spaces close to home, Knightdale definitely delivers.

Shop Local at the Knightdale Farmers Market
One of the sweetest ways to experience a community is through its farmers market, and Knightdale's is worth adding to your weekend plans. The Farmers Market @ Oak City brings local vendors and makers together in downtown Knightdale during the spring through fall season.
It's a great excuse to grab your coffee, walk around downtown, shop from local vendors and pick up something fresh for the week. If you're considering moving to Knightdale, community events like this are also a great way to get a feel for the people and personality of the area.

Knightdale Loves a Good Community Event
Another thing that stood out to us about Knightdale is how much the town actually does throughout the year. The community calendar includes everything from seasonal festivals and farmers markets to movies in the park, concerts, family events and holiday celebrations.

A Little Knightdale History
Knightdale may feel like one of the newer, rapidly growing communities in the Triangle, but its history goes back much further than you might expect. The area has roots dating back to the colonial era. According to the Town of Knightdale, explorer John Lawson passed through the area around 1701 during his exploration of the Carolina Colony. Around 1730, John Hinton settled near the Neuse River in what would eventually become Knightdale. The community later became closely connected to agriculture, particularly tobacco, and eventually to the railroad. The town is named after Henry Haywood Knight, who donated land to the Norfolk and Southern Railroad Company in hopes of bringing the railroad to the community. The railroad arrived shortly after his death in 1904 and helped transform Knightdale into a growing center for commerce and transportation.
Knightdale officially incorporated on March 9, 1927. The railroad helped bring businesses and families to the area, and many older homes were built for railroad workers. Even today, that history is still reflected in the downtown area and around First Avenue.
Today, Knightdale has grown significantly, but the town's history is still an important part of its identity.
What It's Like to Live in Knightdale
This is where Knightdale really starts to stand out. You get many of the conveniences of being close to Raleigh without necessarily feeling like you're living in the middle of a dense urban area.

After exploring Knightdale, we headed over to Mailman Post to see what living here could look like. And this isn't your typical apartment community.

Knightdale checks a lot of those boxes. It's growing, but it hasn't lost its community feel. You can spend a Saturday morning drinking coffee downtown, grab brunch, wander through a farmers market, head to the park and still be close enough to Raleigh for dinner or a night out.
